Letter to the editor: Judges choose to spend tax dollars to house inmates
Due to lack of work and a seasonal job, I am currently serving a 60-day sentence for noncompliance to pay a $450 past due child support payment. This was a district judge’s decision, costing you the taxpayer $65 per day or $1,950 a month. I am only one of many people in this position.
My children are all grown adults now, and they are no longer dependent on receiving any of these payments.
District judges choose to spend your tax dollars to feed and house me rather than allowing me to fend for myself. I ask nothing in public assistance. I am being used to waste taxpayers’ money, create job security for correctional officers, judges and child support enforcement staff. All these people are already dependent on your taxes for a paycheck.
Tax dollars well spent. Opinions are welcome.
