Letter to the editorSpecial edition on volunteers appreciated
Thank you to The Jamestown Sun staff for the excellent edition on volunteers called “Making a Difference.” You highlighted some of the very special people who serve local agencies and organizations in our community. None of the non-profits would be able to do what they do best without the dedication of these volunteers. This special edition is a great segue into the upcoming National Volunteer Week, April 6-12.
RSVP+ South Central would like to give a “Bravo” to the 500 enrolled volunteers in our seven-county area. Their commitment to service is admirable. Those volunteers contributed 27,842 hours of service in the past 12 months. Volunteering is about giving back, contributing and helping other individuals and the community. It is working with others to make a meaningful contribution to a better community.
People volunteer for an endless variety of reasons. Many people want to gain experience, acquire new skills, meet new people or expand their network of contacts. Others just want to give back to their community, to help a friend or promote a worthwhile activity. They do it because it makes them feel good.
While volunteering is not about money, the Independent Sector website states the 2013 value of volunteer time in North Dakota is a $23.92 hourly rate for non-managers. On behalf of those of us who depend on these volunteers, we agree whole-heartedly!
Thank a volunteer today!
