Los Molcajettes to open next week
A new restaurant, Los Molcajettes, will open for business at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Karla Dominguez, the restaurant’s manager, said Los Molcajettes, which means “The Mortar,” will serve authentic Mexican cuisine. The business is owned by Manuel Vera, of California.
Dominguez said everyone involved in the restaurant is related to each other.
“This is the first restaurant Mr. Vera has owned,” she said.
The restaurant’s name is based on a wok-type bowl, similar to a pestle and mortar used to grind up different materials like flour.
“It’s made of rock and we will be cooking and serving our signature dish in it,” Dominguez said.
Vera decided to open a restaurant in Jamestown after talking with family member Alex Mendoza. Mendoza will be the bartender. He said he has worked in other restaurants in Jamestown and is looking forward to opening Los Molcajettes.
“We wanted to offer something a little different from the other restaurants in Jamestown,” he said.
Meals will be priced so that a couple can have a full meal with drinks for about $20.
Dominguez said the restaurant’s signature dish will include just about any combination of beef, chicken, pork and shrimp with onion and other vegetables that you can think of.
The bar will offer a matching signature drink, the cantaritos, which is a mix of tequila and Squirt. It will be served in a small clay cup.
“It pairs really well with the signature food dish, they complement each other,” Dominguez said.
Los Molcajettes will have a staff of four in the kitchen and three working the front of the restaurant.
Mendoza said the restaurant will also have two 60-inch flat panel televisions for watching sports.
