Man dies in ATV crash
A 49-year-old Bismarck man was killed after a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle crashed at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in McLean County, N.D., about 3 miles north of Mercer, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The Bismarck man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The patrol said a 48-year-old Fargo woman was driving a 2014 Can Am side-by-side ATV with two passengers, a 48-year-old man from Pennsylvania and the Bismarck man, on the ditch right-of-way on McLean County Road 33 near 8th Avenue Northwest. The group was riding from Mercer to a residence at Brush Lake. The ATV hit an approach in its path that launched the vehicle into the air. The ATV landed on its roof, ejecting the Bismarck man.
It was unknown if anyone was wearing a helmet or using any safety restraints.
The Fargo woman and Pennsylvania man were transported by Turtle Lake Ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck for treatment of injuries.
The ATV was totaled. The McLean County Sheriff’s Department, Mercer Fire and Ambulance, Turtle Lake Ambulance and NDHP all responded to the scene. The name of the Bismarck man is being withheld pending notification of his family.
The crash remains under investigation by the NDHP.
