Marilyn M. Mahlke

Marilyn M. Mahlke, 81, of Minot ND died Saturday evening July 5th, 2014, at her home of natural causes.

She was born April 13, 1933 to John C. and Merna (Thoms) Martin at their farm home in Clementsville, ND. She married Emil Mahlke Jr. of Wimbledon on October 12, 1950. Once their eight children reached school age Marilyn worked as a Nurses Aide and she also drove school bus for 4 years. During her lifetime she lived in Spiritwood ND, Westport SD, Pleasant Lake ND, Rugby ND, Denver CO, and Lewistown MT. She spent the last 13 years in Lewistown MT caring for her mother until her passing in December 2013, at which time she relocated to Minot ND.

The most important things in Marilyns life were her family, her church, and anybody who needed a helping hand. She enjoyed her card club, baking, embroidery, playing bingo and reading. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Lewistown, MT and had plans to join Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Minot but her health declined and she became homebound. Pastor Dan of Our Saviors visited with her several times prior to her passing.

She is survived by her children: Jeffrey (Pam) Mahlke of Frederick, SD; Rodney (Nancy) Mahlke of Spokane, WA; Thomas (Deb) Mahlke of Elm Lake, SD; Pamela (Casper) Berdahl of Minot, ND; Michele (Bruce) Hancock of Minot, ND; John (Sheila) Mahlke of Moorhead, MN; Leann (Rick) Slaubaugh of Rolette, ND; James Mahlke of Fargo, ND; her brothers Fred (Carol) Martin and Del (Joan) Martin both of Jamestown, ND; sister Elsie (Bill) Huss of Great Falls, MT; sister Jackie McClure of Wickenburg, AZ. When Marilyn left for Heaven she had 21 Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in late August in Frederick, SD and her ashes will be spread by her children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren in Westport SD.

Friends are asked to make memorials to: Council on Aging and mail to Michele Hancock, 1205 6th ST NE, Minot, ND 58703 who will forward them to the organization.
