Mary Jean Ben, 89, of Big Lake, MN passed away February 3, 2014 at CentraCare Health in Monticello, MN,

Mary Jean (Tanner) Ben was born on December 13, 1924 near Lisbon, ND to Wesley & Carrie Tanner. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1942 & attended Fargo Business College. She was employed by Union Storage & Transfer Co. in Fargo as a bookkeeper.

On October 14, 1961 she married Clarence Ben. They made their home on a farm near Gackle, ND until Clarence passed away in 1978. During her time in Gackle she was employed by Irmas Tax Service, a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Alfred American Legion Auxiliary, the Gackle school board and an avid bowler & card player.

Mary Jean continued to reside in North Dakota until 1994, when she moved to Big Lake, MN to be closer to her only daughter, Peggy & family. There she continued to be active volunteering in her community & a member of Community United Methodist Church. She loved crocheting, sewing, playing cards & most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Peggy (Brad) Greenwaldt, Big Lake, MN; grandchildren, Ashley Greenwaldt, Courtney (Brandon) Czech and Tyler Greenwaldt, as well as several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her parents, brothers Wilber and Dwight Tanner & sister-in-law Berniece Tanner.

Mary Jeans family will gather for a celebration of her life & internment later this spring in Gackle, ND.
