Mathilda Margaret Stark was born April 6, 1916 in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, Canada in a little old sod shanty on the claim to Anna (Thomas) and William Stark. She passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown. She was baptized at St. Paschals Church, Wilkie,Saskatchewan. Her mother died on the claim leaving Mathilda an orphan at the age of nine months, plus nine other siblings.

Mathilda plus her sister Elizabeth, age 6 years were brought to North Dakota and raised by their aunt Magdalena and Uncle Jacob Kawalski. When Magdalena and Jacob Kawalski became citizens of the U.S. they listed as having two children, Elizabeth and Mathilda so they took the name Kawalski, but were never adopted.

Mathilda received her education in a rural country school. She earned her G.E.D. at 70 yrs of age. She met and married Pearl Hoggarth, Jan. 5, 1943 at St. Mary's Church, Courtenay, ND.

Mathilda loved driving on vacations; she made many trips back to her family in Canada. She loved fishing, playing pinochle and bingo, quilting and crocheting.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, a son-in-law, Darold Kracht, son, Lester Hoggarth, her special sister, Elizabeth Siebert and many other family members.

She is survived by her two children; Bernard (Karen) Hoggarth, Mesa, AZ; Theresa Kracht, Jamestown, ND; daughter-in-law, Verna Hoggarth, Jamestown; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, special friend, Bernice Fousek and many neices and nephews.

When asked how she wanted to be remembered she replied "Always remember the vows we made at marriage and to keep them until death do us part-faith in God-prayer offering ourselves to God-look to him for our strength.

Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church, Kensal, ND with Fr. Joe Barrett, officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Eddy Funeral Home

Spring Burial: Kensal Cemetery.
