McDermott on short list
Creighton senior forward Doug McDermott and Connecticut senior guard Shabazz Napier highlight the Wooden Award All-American team, which was announced Monday.
McDermott, who was born in Grand Forks, N.D., went over the 3,000 career points mark earlier this season. He was also named to the Associated Press All-American team, becoming the first player in 29 years to earn the honor three times.
McDermott, who averaged 20.1 points and 7.8 rebounds this past season, is projected as a lottery pick in the NBA draft, which is June 26.
Napier led UConn, a No. 7 seed, to the Final Four with 25 points Sunday in a win over Michigan State. A year ago, the Huskies were ineligible for the NCAA Tournament because of academic restrictions.
Only two freshmen were named to the team: Kansas guard Andrew Wiggins and Duke forward Jabari Parker.
The rest of the Wooden All-American team included: Wichita State senior forward Cleanthony Early; Cincinnati senior guard Sean Kilpatrick; Arizona junior guard Nick Johnson; Florida senior forward Casey Prather; Louisville senior guard Russ Smith; and Michigan sophomore guard Nik Stauskas.
