Minn. resident dies in Sunday crash

A 63-year-old Cedar, Minn., resident died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in Traill County, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened at 3 p.m. when the driver was southbound on I-29 in a 1999 Ford Explorer. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle on the wet, scattered slippery road surface while passing a southbound 2013 Volvo tractor/trailer being driven by a 43-year-old Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, resident.

The patrol said after the Ford Explorer struck the side of the trailer it was apparently struck by the rear trailer tires, then entered the median and overturned, ejecting the driver of the Explorer. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Volvo tractor/trailer was wearing a seat belt and wasn't injured, the patrol said.

Names and genders of the drivers were not immediately released.

The Ford Explorer was totaled. The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
