Montana man dies in head-on collision

ZAHL, N.D. — A 29-year-old man from Missoula, Mont., died Thursday night in a head-on collision along U.S. Highway 85 in Divide County.

The man was traveling south in a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox and attempting to pass in the northbound lane about 5 miles north of Zahl when he struck a Kenworth truck driven by 54-year-old Loren A. Shunkwiler of Williston.

The vehicles came to rest on opposite sides of the highway.

The driver of the Equinox was not wearing any safety restraints. Shunkwiler was wearing his seatbelt and was injured. His tractor-trailer received $15,000 in damage.
