Myrtle Tufte, age 96, of Carrington, ND, died Thursday August 21, 2014, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.
Myrtle Evelyn Hoyt was born February 4, 1918, to Leo and Eva (Brown) Hoyt in Eddy County near McHenry, ND.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Oscar Tufte on December 27, 1944, in McHenry. They moved to the family farm in 1945, and lived on the farm until 2008, when she moved to Carrington. In 2010, she moved to Holy Family Villa and later to Golden Acres Manor, making many special friends in both places. Myrtles family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very precious to her. She started playing music when she was 16. Through the years she played for many dances and gatherings. Later on, she played in nursing homes and senior centers. Myrtle played the guitar, harmonica and accordion, and sang.
Myrtle is survived by her five children: Jerry (Cindy) Tufte, Glenfield, ND, Marlys (Bill) Bauer, Carrington, Elton (Mary) Tufte, Sioux Falls, SD, Sheryll Fike (fianc Keith Anwiler), Bowdon, ND, Bonnie (Duane) Harding,
Carrington; 14 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren; 3 step-great-great grandchildren; 1 brother; Walter (Delores) Hoyt, Pekin, ND, 2 sisters-in-law Delores Hoyt, McHenry and Mylerna Hoyt, Cooperstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oscar; 2 brothers Elery and Harvey; 2 sons-in-law Dwight Dunn and Jim Fike; 1 step grandchild Craig; and 1 great-granddaughter Mayna Tufte.
VISITATION: Sunday 11AM 7PM, with a PRAYER SERVICE held at 7PM, all in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
