AMBER ALERT: Toddler taken in Minnesota after his mother was stabbed, police say

N.D. native to battle today on ‘The Voice’

The Minnesota rock star who grew up on a North Dakota farm will enter the ring for a vocal battle royale today on “The Voice.”

Kat Perkins of Minneapolis will face Patrick Thomson during the battle round on the NBC singing talent series, according to Entertainment Weekly. The two will sing “Whenever I Call You Friend” by Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks as a duet. The winner moves on to the next round while the other is eliminated.

Perkins turned three chairs — Shakira, Usher and Adam Levine — when her audition premiered last Monday as she sang Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman.” She joined Team Adam.

In the battle round, two people from the same team perform together. Their coach must choose who advances to the next round while the other goes home.

But coaches are given two steals, which allows them to pick up an eliminated singer during the battle round, giving the singer a second chance.

Perkins, originally from Scranton, N.D., is expected to sing sometime during the show, which airs at 7 p.m. today.
