N.D. nutrition lab gets funding

GRAND FORKS (AP) -- Congressman Earl Pomeroy says a spending bill that has passed the U.S. House and is expected to pass the Senate includes $9.5 million for the Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks.

Former President Bush's 2009 federal budget called for the center to be closed and for many of its functions to be transferred to U.S. Department of Agriculture offices in Maryland and California.

The center has nearly 100 employees, including federal workers and state employees contracted through the University of North Dakota.
