NDSU provost a finalist in Fla.

FARGO — North Dakota State University Provost Bruce Rafert was named as one of four finalists to be the next chancellor of the State University System of Florida, according to an announcement Thursday night.

About six weeks ago, Rafert said he would step down to join the faculty and continue his research at NDSU. Rafert has held the provost position at NDSU — the second-in-command behind the school’s president — for a little more than two years.

He’ll be considered along with three others to lead the university system in Florida consisting of 12 public schools.

Rafert has connections to the Florida system as an alumnus of the University of Florida and former professor at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Rafert and the other candidates will have interviews with the search committee Nov. 12. Candidates selected to move forward after in-person interviews will be invited to meet with the full Board of Governors on Nov. 20 and 21 at Florida International University.
