New Wine to present musical play
New Wine, a Christian youth drama and music troupe, presents "Kingdom Tales," a contemporary musical play with modern retellings of New Testament parables, at 7:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown.
New Wine is based at Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet, Minn. New Wine is a group of 44 freshmen through seniors from six high schools and 12 churches of many denominations from Cloquet and surrounding communities. It is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
The group strives to promote friendship and understanding among the students, who come from varied religious backgrounds. Each year, New Wine also proclaims the good news of faith by presenting a musical play with a religious theme, first for four consecutive evenings at the home church in April, then portions of the play are presented at several area churches as part of Sunday morning worship services. Finally, the group embarks on a 10-day tour in June.
The 2009 production, "Kingdom Tales," is a retelling of several parables, intertwining the lives of the characters in the play with the lives of those in the Bible stories. The program is approximately 90 minutes in length. The performance is free. A freewill offering will be collected to help with the group's travel expenses.
The performance is approximately 90 minutes in length and is open to the public.
