Matt Schaub gets a new start as a starting quarterback with the Oakland Raiders.

Schaub was traded from the Houston Texans for a sixth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Raiders announced Friday. He will sit atop an Oakland depth chart with Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin also under contract.

Schaub lost his starting spot with the Texans in the midst of a 14-game losing streak that led to Houston earning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft. It was widely presumed he would be cut before the start of free agency, but with no deadlines for bonuses in his contract structure ahead, the Texans held onto Schaub to invite trade offers.

Jets sign Vick,            release Sanchez

Free agent quarterback Michael Vick agreed to a one-year contact with the New York Jets on Friday and the National Football League team released former starter Mark Sanchez.

Vick, 33, had spent five years with the Philadelphia Eagles but hobbled by injuries. He was replaced by Nick Foles as the Eagles starter last season.

“My role is to go out there and win,” Vick, who is likely to back up Jets starter Geno Smith, told reporters.

Vikings sign DE Wooton

Unrestricted free agent defensive end Corey Wootton signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday.

The contract is for one year, according to Wootton’s agent. NFL.com reported that the deal pays Wootton up to $2 million. Wootton, who is recovering from hip surgery, was with the NFC North rival Chicago Bears for the past four years.

Panthers sign Joe Webb

The Carolina Panthers reached a two-year agreement with free-agent wide receiver Tiquan Underwood and agreed to one-year deals with cornerback Antoine Cason and quarterback Joe Webb on Friday.

Webb will be a quarterback for the Panthers. He completed 88 of 152 pass attempts for 853 yards for the Minnesota Vikings, who switched him to wide receiver last season.
