Nord leads Jimmies

Pat Nord and Zach Pickering combined for four wins at the Husky Holiday Open on Saturday in St. Cloud, Minn.

Nord, a senior from Enderlin, got off to a dominating start at 174 pounds with pair of pins. But he fell to Josh Berg of St. Cloud State in the semifinals (16-3) and then dropped a narrow 12-10 decision to Jack Barnes, another SCSU wrestler.

Pickering went win, loss, win, loss at 165, with a pair of close wins over Grant Mueller of Ridgewater Community College (Minn.) and Ochirbat Bayan Jargal of St. John’s (Minn.).

The Jimmies had the fewest pins in the 12-team field with three.

The other fall recorded by a University of Jamestown wrester came from Andre Aguinaga at 125 where he stuck Mike Mischke late in the second period.

On Friday, the Jimmies went 1-2 in three duals, however only Schnaubert (1-2) and heavyweight Matthew McCullough (1-2) wrestled three matches. Forfeits factored significantly into all three duals.

The Jimmies beat Northland Community & Technical College (30-28), and fell to Ridgewater Community College (25-15) and Itasca Community College (33-12).

Pickering went 1-1 in contested matches. Dillon Kifer split two matches at 149 with a pin.

The Jimmies are off through the holidays. They return to action Jan. 8 when they host NCAA Division II Northern State.
