NSU nips Jimmies

Email

Another quality opponent, another narrow loss for the Jimmies.

It didn’t count in the win-loss record, but coach Justin Wieck’s team was right there against Northern State in Aberdeen, but the NCAA Division II Wolves hung on for a 78-73 win.

“It was a really good effort by our guys, but at some point we gotta get tired of giving a good effort and get over the hump and get a win,” said Wieck, who was an assistant coach at NSU prior to taking over the Jimmies. “We’re as happy as you can be with losing, but it’d be a lot more enjoyable if we were excited right now about winning against a good team in their gym.”

The game was the latest in a serious gauntlet the Jimmies are running in their November schedule.

“We knew the schedule was going to be tough, but at the same time we’ve had chances to win pretty much all of these games,” Wieck said. “We’ve told our guys we’re really close. We made some really nice improvement defensively from last weekend to tonight, which is important if we’re going to take that next step as a team.”
