One car accident causes damage

More than $10,000 in damage happened during a one-car accident Oct. 24, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

The crash occurred at 10:57 p.m. in the 500 block of U.S. Highway 52/Fifth Street Northwest.

Austin Morkan-Colon, 22, of Indiatlantic, Fla., was driving a 2009 Honda south on U.S. 52 approaching a curve in the 500 block. The police said Morkan-Colon said he fell asleep behind the wheel. The car went off the highway into the west-side ditch, struck a directional sign, continued south and struck a tree.

Morkan-Colon was wearing his seat belt. The police said Morkan-Colon reported a wrist injury, but didn’t seek medical treatment.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the Honda.

Morkan-Colon was cited for care required when driving.
