Optimist Club honors athletes

Jamestown High School’s Kailey Alber and Cayden Hare, along with the University of Jamestown’s Christa Lysne and Dillon Kifer, were all selected by the Jamestown Optimist Club as athletes of the week.

Alber, a sophomore on the Blue Jay gymnastics team, had career best scores on beam (8.55), floor (8.6) and the all-around (32.85) at the Jamestown Invite this past weekend. She place in the top seven on vault (fourth), beam (seventh), floor (seventh) and the all-around (seventh) after adding many new skills in her events.

Hare, a sophomore on the Blue Jay swimming and diving team, qualified for state in the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley during a dual vs. Bismarck High School.

Lysne, a freshman on the Jimmie women’s track and field team from Devils Lake, ran two strong 800-meter legs on two qualifying relay teams on Saturday at the Cobber Duals in Moorhead. Lysne helped the Jimmie 4x800 and distance medley relay teams to earn a berth for both at nationals in Geneva, Ohio in March.

Kifer, a sophomore on the Jimmie men’s wrestling team, placed first at the Briar Cliff Open on Saturday, winning five straight matches with four falls and an injury default. The Little Falls, Minn., native’s record jumped to 18-8.
