Pedestrian killed in Kenworth semitrailer crash near Pembina

A male pedestrian died after he was struck by a Kenworth semitrailer Sunday on Interstate 29 south of Pembina, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 12:30 p.m. in the southbound lane of I-29 just south of the Pembina Port of Entry.

The patrol said there were several crashes on I-29 south of the port of entry due to blizzard conditions. A male pedestrian was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in one of these accidents. As he was getting out of his vehicle to check on a party driving the other vehicle involved in an accident, the male was struck by a 2013 Kenworth semitrailer driven by a 50-year-old Ontario, Canada, male.

The male pedestrian was transported by Pembina Ambulance to Pembina County Memorial Hospital, where he died due to his injuries around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The man’s name has not been released pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation.
