BEACH, N.D. — A pilot was injured Friday when he crashed his plane at the airport in the western North Dakota city of Beach, the state Highway Patrol reported.

Thomas Mau of Kenmare was flying the plane Friday from his hometown to Beach, said the patrol, which did not specify the type of plane.

Mau lost control as he was landing, and the plane went off the runway into a field. The aircraft hit a hay bale and came to rest, the patrol said.

Mau was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson. The airplane’s front and undercarriage were severely damaged.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol and Federal Aviation Administration.
