Post 19 walks off a winner
Jared Meiklejohn sent LaMoure Post 19 to the state tournament with some serious momentum.
It was the second home run of the game for Meiklejohn, who was the starting shortstop in the spring for Valley City State. He finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Both LaMoure and Enderlin advance to the state tournament, which begins on Wednesday in Langdon, N.D.
LaMoure entered Saturday’s action unbeaten in the tournament, meaning Enderlin would have needed to beat Post 19 twice.
Meiklejohn had connected for a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to give Post 19 a 3-2 lead. LaMoure’s other run also came on a home run from Anthony Olson in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Winning pitcher Roddy Gentzkow went all seven innings on the mound, allowing just four hits with three strikeouts.
LaMoure 5, Oakes 4
On Friday night, Post 19 edged host Oakes 5-4.
LaMoure scored three runs in the second inning and two in the third and held on the rest of the way.
Olson went 2-for-3 with a run, RBI and stolen base.
Winning pitcher Brady Warcken worked into the sixth inning and Meiklejohn nailed it down by getting the final four outs.
Post 19 takes a 29-8 record into the state tournament.
Carrington also advanced to the state tournament, winning the Central Region Tournament.
Carrington, the tournament host, went 4-0 and beat Nelson County 7-6 in eight innings on Saturday. Nelson County also advanced to state.
