But offiicials with Jamestown Police Department and Jamestown Streets Department may differ with that reading after having to close off intersections and parts of city streets due to heavy rain from a slow moving group of thunderstorms.

Jamestown Police Assistant Chief Maj. John Johnson advised residents to stay off of city streets until the rain subsided Saturday afternoon. He said people should stay away from flooded areas and only travel if they must.

The southeast part of Jamestown seemed to get the most water. The viaduct on 4th Avenue Northeast was closed around 4 p.m. after it became impassable due to water over the roadway.

The 3rd Street area between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue Southeast was flooded. One family had to leave their home after a basement wall collapsed, according to information from the police department.

Tony Merriman, lead forecaster for the National Weather Service office in Bismarck, said rain will continue Saturday into Sunday, but the heavy rain threat should subside by 10 p.m. Saturday.
