Roland hired as North football coach

Fargo North High School now knows who will lead its program when football practices begin in four months.

The school announced Wednesday that Adam Roland — an assistant at North the last three years — will be the head coach of the Spartans.

Roland, 32, is a former prep standout at Wahpeton and also played college football at the University of North Dakota. Roland teaches biology at North.

“It has been something I have always thought of,” Roland said of becoming head coach. “I always wanted to be a teacher and a coach. That has been my life path. I have stuck true and followed that. I was happy being an assistant coach and if that was my calling than that was what I was going to do, but if there was ever an opportunity to be a head coach, it was something I was going to think about.”

North is coming off a 1-8 season last fall and is 6-21 in the last three seasons.
