Sister Mary Palmer, age 101, a Member of The Sisters of the Presentation, Fargo, ND, died February 3, 2014 at Villa Maria, Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.

Sister Mary Palmer was born August 5, 1912, in North Washington, IA. She is one of nine children born to William F. and Mary (Lentz) Palmer. She attended grade school in the Corrine School District No. 23. She graduated from High School at Sacred Heart Academy, Fargo in 1931. Mary Adeline Palmer, as she was known in school, was taught by the Sisters of the Presentation and entered the Presentation Congregation in Fargo in 1929.

She was given the name Sister Mary Laboure. She made Final Vows in 1935. She celebrated the Golden Jubilee of her Profession in 1982. Twenty -fine years later, on August 19, 2007 She celebrated 75 years of Religious Profession. But that was not the end of her celebrating. Together with the Celebration of her 100th Birthday she celebrated 80 years of Religious Profession.

She received her teaching degree from Valley City State Teachers' College and taught at St. Anthony's Grade School in Fargo, St. James in New Rochford, ND, St. Mary's in Fargo and in St Alphonsus in Langdon, ND. She served as Religious Education Coordinator in Grafton, ND before going to Nativity School in Fargo. She spent the last twenty years of her teaching career at Holy Spirit School, Fargo.

During her teaching years, Sr. Mary Palmer was honored by the YWCA in 1991 as one of the Women of the year, and in 1992 she was honored as the Teacher of the Month in the City of Fargo. Sister retired from teaching in 1994.

Sister was a skilled seamstress who made her own suits and altered clothes for others. She crocheted blankets, and sewed bibs for newborn children. She was a long time pinochle fan and continued playing until August 2013. She also spent time in prayer for all of her former students, friends and relatives.

She is survived by members of her Religious Community, her sister-in-law, Catherine Carrington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Sacred Heart Convent, 1101 32nd Avenue South, Fargo, ND, from 6:00 - 7:00PM followed by a Prayer Service. The Celebration of Christian Burial is at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 6, 2014 with a visitation one hour prior at Riverview Place, 5300 12th Street South, Fargo, ND. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presentation Sisters' Foundation.
