Nortonville’s Huber shines at nationals
The son of Denny and Bryan Huber, Isaac posted a runner-up mark of 9-feet, 4 1/2-inches.
In order to advance to the final, Huber placed first in local, state and provincial meets.
Over 450 youth participated in the national final. Past Olympic greats like Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Dan O’Brien were among those to attend the finals and meet with the youth.
Hershey youth track meets have been conducted yearly across the country since 1977.
Merchants register 25th victory
The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants improved to 25-10 with a 3-1 win over the Mayville Redcaps on Wednesday night.
Brandon Baumgartner fired six strong innings, allowing just five hits with six strikeouts. The lone run the Redcaps got was unearned.
Sam Hirchert nailed it down with three scoreless frames to earn the save. Hirchert allowed three hits and fanned five.
Tom Houdek had two of the Merchants’ six hits. He also scored two of their runs.
Anthony Fontana went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Dan Ross had the other RBI for the Merchants, who are back in action Sunday against the Moorhead Brewers. The Class AAA state tournament is set for Aug. 22-24 in Jamestown.
Pingree-Buchanan scramble Aug. 23
The third annual Pingree-Buchanan Booster Club four-person golf scramble is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23 at CrossRoads Golf Course in Carrington.
Cost is $50 per person. Registration is set for noon with a 1 p.m. tee off.

JHS girls golf meeting Sunday
A mandatory player/parent meeting for Jamestown High School girls is planned for Sunday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m., in the Commons area of the high school.
All girls interested in playing golf for the Blue Jays are expected to attend.
