The senior from Jamestown High School finished third in the high hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 15.90 seconds at the Shanley Invite on Friday. He was also the first leg on the runner-up 400 relay team, which again qualified for state. The combination of Orr, Layne Carlson, Ben Hanson and Brady Carlson ran a time of 45.35.

Jamestown finished fourth with 69.5 points out of 14 teams, nine of which make up the East Region. Fargo Davies and Grand Forks Red River tied for first with 120 points, while Kindred was third with 73.

The Blue Jays didn’t have any champions, but featured multiple runner-up finishes. Layne Carlson (200) and Logan Anderson (shot put) each garnered second-place honors, while Anderson also placed third in the discus.

McKayla Orr continued her strong season, winning both hurdle races with state-qualifying times. She ran Class A’s second-best time in the high hurdles (15.86) and 300 hurdles (46.31), though she already had the best time in the latter race.

The Blue Jays also finished fourth with 74 points, behind Fargo Davies (130), Carrington (113) and Shanley (76).

Orr joined with Kylee Voigt, Erin Hillerud and Madison Barnes to take third in the 400 relay with a time of 4:16.72, yet another state-qualifying time for the veteran relay team.

Junior Beka Hilgemann moved into Class A’s top eight throwers on the shot put’s state-qualifying list with a mark of 37 feet, 2.5 inches, which placed her second.

Carrington fared well on both sides as Connor Wendel took third in the 300 hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 41.21 seconds. Though they weren’t state-qualifying marks, Riley Miller placed second in both the long and triple jumps.

Carrington’s high-powered girls team flexed its muscles by winning an impressive seven events.

Kayla Hochhalter captured titles in the shot put (41-6), discus (132-1) and javelin (132-5), all state-qualifying throws. Her shot put and discus marks are the best in all of Class B.

Senior Madison Wendel won the high jump with a state-qualifying leap of 5-1. Abigail Jarrett won the triple jump with a 31-3.75 and Maara Nelson had the best long jump at 14-9. Also winning was Ashley Neumiller, who captured top honors in the 800 with a time of 2:22.58.

Additional state-qualifying marks for the Cardinals were Kauri Hochhalter in the javelin (109-2, second) and Bailey Retzlaff in the discus (116-1, second).
