Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels said in a news release that Michael Warren, 27, of Alexandria, had been taken into custody.

"We have probable cause to believe that Warren is involved in the recent robberies that have occurred in Alexandria within the past few weeks," Wyffels said. "At this time, the investigation will continue and Warren will await formal charges."

Armed robberies were committed at a Subway restaurant Feb. 23, Premiere Video on March 10 and a Super America convenience store Tuesday. In each case, a man entered the store shortly before closing time when a young female clerk was working. The robber, wearing a mask and gloves, was armed with a handgun and he bound the clerk before leaving the store.

Wyffels said Warren’s arrest culminated an intense week of investigation involving multiple agencies, including the Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Glenwood Police Department, West Central Drug Task Force, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, FBI and the Minnesota State Patrol.

"We have not concluded this investigation, and therefore, will not be releasing any additional details at this time," the chief said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Alexandria police at (320) 763-6631.
