Tigirlily concert Friday in Kulm: Dollars for Scholars win the event
Bank of North Dakota’s College Planning Center has announced that Kulm Area Dollars for Scholars has won a free Tigirlily concert that will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Kulm Public High School gym.
The event includes a community pasta dinner at the Kulm Community Center beginning at 5 p.m. that will be followed with a 45-minute meet and greet with Tigirlily at 6 p.m.
Tigirlily is best known for the song and video, “North Dakota,” which drew more than 150,000 views within days on YouTube last summer. The sisters, both high school students, began posting videos recorded in their family kitchen in Hazen in late 2010 and have thousands of followers throughout the country.
The Tigirlily show is one of five free appearances scheduled this spring around North Dakota. In a contest announced last November, the College Planning Center pledged to sponsor shows for high schools that raised the most money per pupil for the nonprofit Dollars for Scholars.
Kulm was the top fundraiser in the southwest region.
“Dollars for Scholars is a program that awards scholarship money to students in the same communities where the money is raised,” said Wally Erhardt, director at the College Planning Center. “The winning communities receive more than a free concert for their efforts — they have more money for scholarships.”
Other North Dakota communities winning a free Tigirlily concert are Crosby, Hope, Watford City and Barnes County North. The concert is produced by Nightlife Sound and Lighting and The Creative Treatment.
