Tough tournament for Jimmies in Wisconsin
Jamestown North Dakota 121 3rd St NW 58401

After a big start to the season, the Jimmie women found things much tougher in the second meet of the campaign.

The University of Jamestown finished 12th out of 15 teams at the Georgianni Invitational in Eau Claire, Wisc., in a loaded field of traditionally strong teams.

“It was a rough one for us,” UJ coach Dustin Jensen said.

Freshman Rachel Jahner had a nice showing in the two-day meet. The Dickinson product had one of just 14 rounds in the 70s on Saturday. She slumped to an 86 on Sunday, but still finished just outside the top 20 at 21st with a total of 164.

Annie Nelson shaved five strokes off her 87 on Saturday for an 82 Sunday.

But Reagan Ritchey’s 84 Sunday was the only other sub-90 round among Jimmie golfers.

“Nerves in a big setting and trying way too hard to do more than they needed,” Jensen said of his team’s struggles.

Carleton College (Minn.) outclassed the field with a winning total of 628 on the 5,800-yard plus Wild Ridge Golf Course. University of Wisconsin-Stout was second (651).

The Jimmies, who won their opening meet with a school record score Aug. 27, kick off the three-day Concordia Cobber Invitational in Detroit Lakes, Minn., on Friday.
