Train crashes with car near NDSU
FARGO -- A woman was uninjured Monday afternoon when her car was struck by a slow-moving train west of the North Dakota State University campus.
The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. at the train crossing just north of the intersection at 12th Avenue North and 18th Street North, said acting Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Waller. The crossing is marked, but doesn't have crossing arms.
"A train was trying to make this crossing into NDSU going at a slow rate of speed, and this distracted lady driver just didn't see the train for whatever reason and got hit by the slow-moving train," he said.
Waller said a Burlington Northern employee at the scene told him the train was moving about 3 mph.
Waller said even with the slow speed and small number of cars attached to the engine, the train had plenty of momentum.
