Trooper to ride train as a 'spotter'

BISMARCK (AP) -- A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper is serving as a "spotter" on a BNSF Railway train.

The officer on Wednesday will observe traffic approaching crossings as the train travels from Dilworth, Minn., to Williston.

Other troopers will be near the train or parked at spots along the track, and the spotter will radio one of them to stop any vehicle breaking traffic laws at the highway-railroad crossings.
