Two arrested in Williston death
WILLISTON — Two people have been arrested in South Dakota in connection with the beating death of a man in Williston.
The two suspects in the case, Kyle Siler and Jessica Gibson, were apprehended on U.S. Highway 85 near Belle Fourche, S.D., about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere said Monday.
Siler was being sought on a charge of aggravated assault for allegedly beating Neiderklopfer in Williston in the early hours of Friday, according to the Williston Herald. Gibson was being sought on a charge of hindering law enforcement.
With Neiderklopfer’s death, the case will now be treated as a homicide.
Siler was involved in a fight with Niederklopfer between midnight and 1 a.m. Friday, police told the Williston Herald. Witnesses reported seeing Siler hit Niederklopfer in the head and when he fell to the ground, Niederklopfer appeared to be unconscious and made no attempt to catch himself.
Officers found Niederklopfer on the ground and unresponsive. Niederklopfer was transported to Trinity Hospital in Minot, where he was declared brain dead, the Williston Herald reported.
Police tracked the two suspects through Gibson’s cell phone as they traveled to South Dakota.
Lamphere said South Dakota Highway Patrol had a physical description of Siler and Gibson as well as a description of their vehicle.
The two were taken into custody and transported to Meade County Jail in Sturgis, S.D., where they were awaiting extradition to North Dakota, he said.
