ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Two of five children pulled from a car that drove into a pond here Thursday morning have died, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The patrol said Zenavia Rennie, 5,  and Alarious Coleman-Guerrido, 7, both of Brooklyn Center, who were among the children trapped for up to 45 minutes, died Thursday.

Zenavia was the stepdaughter and Alarious was the son of the driver, Marion Guerrido, 23, of Brooklyn Center, who escaped the crash without injury, the patrol said.

The children were unresponsive and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and Children’s Amplatz Hospital in Minneapolis.

The other three children -- Aliyana Rennie, 1, Zarihana Rennie, 6, and Amani Coleman-Guerrido, 5, all of Brooklyn Center -- were listed as having serious injuries on the patrol’s website Friday morning.

Zarihana is Guerrido’s stepchild, and the three others are her biological children.

A 1998 Grand Am driven by Guerrido went into the pond shortly after 6 a.m. at Minnesota Highway 7 and Minnesota Highway 100, the patrol reported. Road conditions were reportedly wet but not icy in this western Twin Cities suburb.

The car had been westbound on Highway 7 and exited to go north on Highway 100 when it drove into the pond.
