Two Jays earn all-region honors

Jamestown’s Paige Peterson and McKayla Orr have been named to the all-West Region basketball team.

Peterson, a senior post, led the Blue Jays in scoring (18.7 points per game) and rebounding (13.5). She also averaged 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The Augustana recruit shot 54.7 percent from the field.

Orr, a senior guard, was second in the team in scoring (14) and rebounding (5.9). She led the Blue Jays in assists (3.4) and steals (3.5).

The Blue Jays went 12-12 overall and 0-2 at the state tournament.

Bismarck and Bismarck Century each had three players named to the team. Jamestown, Minot, Mandan and Turtle Mountain had two each.

‘B’ girls starts Thursday

Region 3 champion Kidder County plays the second game of the Class B state tournament on Thursday at the Fargodome.

The 19-5 Pirates take on Shiloh Christian of Bismarck in the opening round. The Skyhawks (23-1) are the No. 3 seed for the tournament. Defending champion Minot Ryan, winners of 79 of its last 81 games, is the top seed. The Lions are 25-0.

Thompson (23-1) and Central Cass (22-3) are seeded second and fourth, respectively.

Beach (22-2), Region 4 champs Lakota-Edmore (18-6) and Watford City (20-5) round out the field. Play begins at 1 p.m. Thursday.
