Update: Patrol identifies Marion, ND, man killed in crash

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a 40-year-old Marion, N.D., man who died early Saturday in a pickup rollover.

The accident happened at 12:02 a.m. about 1 1/2 miles south of Marion on a gravel road.

Merl Haakenson was a passenger in a 2004 Chevy pickup driven by 43-year-old Angela Haakenson, also of Marion.

The patrol said the pickup was westbound on the gravel road when Angela Haakenson lost control and the vehicle entered the south ditch. Merl Haakenson was partially ejected and died of his injuries, the patrol said. Angela Haakenson was injured and transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center. The patrol said she did not have life-threatening injuries.

Neither was wearing a seat belt.

Angela Haakenson was charged with DUI, the patrol said. The pickup was totaled.

Marion is located 18 miles south and 15 miles east of Jamestown, in LaMoure County.
