Jamestown’s 136.45 was good, according to coach Dave Tews, but Valley City was a little better.

The Hi-Liners, who may be the favorite in the weaker East Region, outpointed Jamestown 138.930-136.450 in the Blue and White Meet Tuesday in Valley City.

“Valley City is pretty good. … They have some skill there,” Tews said. “I thought we did pretty well. That (136.450) isn’t too bad for us.”

The Blue Jays got a season-best from senior Abbie Conlon, who was fourth overall at 34.050.

“She had a good day. Best of the year,” Tews said of Conlon.

Erin Hillerud led the Blue Jays as she has every time out this season with a solid 34.9, which was third to Bethany Krump (35.4) and Taylor Johnson (35.2) of the winning Hi-Liners.

Already without injured junior Jenna Stilwell, senior Kaiann Arellano rolled an ankle in warm-ups and missed the meet, leaving the Blue Jays further short-handed.

Eighth-grader Abby Triebenbach picked up some of the slack, placing second on bars at 8.35 as the Blue Jays went 2-3-4-5-7 in the event.

“We were much better on bars today,” Tews said. “(Triebenbach’s) been scoring for us all year, but it was neat to see her lead (on bars).”

The Jays also got a season-best all around from freshman Maggie Ridley of 33.75, putting her sixth.

“Anytime you see those career-bests you have to happy,” Tews said.

Madison Mandan, who was out sick last week, had the second-best JHS score on floor (8.7).

Tews also said Hannah Schiele, another eighth-grader, also had a good meet, with the team’s third-best score on floor (8.65).

Up next is the Julie Ziegler Invite in Bismarck on Friday, featuring every team in the state expect Dickinson.
