Velva, Williams Co. top final 'A', nine-man polls

Fargo South and Valley City remain atop the North Dakota Class AAA and Class AA football rankings this week.

Velva and Williams County finished the regular season atop the Class A and nine-man rankings.

With one week left in the regular season, the Bruins (5-1) got 10 of the 12 first-place votes in Class AAA. No. 2 Bismarck (7-1) got the other two first-place nods. Bismarck Century (6-2) and Wahpeton (6-2) moved into the poll this week.

In Class AA, the Hi-Liners (8-0) got all nine first-place votes, with Devils Lake (7-1) staying No. 2. The top five are unchanged from last week.

The Aggies (8-0) got all 10 first-place votes in the final Class A poll, while Harvey (7-1), Lisbon (7-2) and Linton-HMB (7-1) stayed in the 2-3-4 spots. Milnor-North Sargent (7-1) moved into the poll at No. 5.

In nine-man, four different teams got first-place votes in the final poll. The Firestorm (9-0) got five first-place votes. No. 2 Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter (8-0) got three and No. 4 St. John (8-0) and No. 5 Hillsboro (8-1) each got one. The top five were unchanged from the previous week.

The nine-man playoffs get under way tonight, and the Class A first round and nine-man second round games are set for Saturday.
