Wanzek takes second
Noah Wanzek of Jamestown placed second out of four finalists of the NFL’s Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Saturday in Denver.
Wanzek’s final total was 420-feet, 6-inches in the 14-15-year-old division. He was second to Nathan Tewell of Girard, Penn., who won with a total of 471-feet, 3-inches.
Wanzek had marks of 114-10 in the punt, 173-10 in the pass and 131-10 in the throw. He edged out Nathan Kern of Worland, Wyo., who placed third with a total of 419 feet.
Wanzek won local, state and regional competitions to advance to Denver. All competitors got to watch the Broncos/San Diego Chargers game in person on Sunday.
Wanzek, 15, is a member of the Jamestown High School football and basketball teams.
Established in 1961, the PP&K competition the oldest NFL youth football program. More than three million boys and girls take part every year from July to January. It’s one of the largest youth sports participation programs in the world.
