Music/Drama/ Comedy

The Whoever Can Come band holds a jam session from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Barnes County Museum, 315 Central Ave. N, Valley City. This event is free and open to anyone to come and play along. For more information, call Wes Anderson, (701) 845-0966.

Special Events

The 2014 wine and cheese tasting is from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Arts Center. Wine and cheeses will be tasted from various countries. Tickets: $30 per person, available at the Arts Center office and Cork & Barrel.

A pinochle tournament is planned starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Hillcrest Proshop as part of Cabin Fever Days events. Cost: $8, which includes lunch and a beverage. Sponsor: Jamestown Parks and Recreation. For more information, call John, 252-3982.

“A 16 Millimeter Film Fest” is at 7 p.m. today at the Barnes County Museum, 315 Central Ave. N., Valley City. The museum has a collection of 16 millimeter educational movies on a variety of topics. There is no admission charge.

Around Town/Area

Free swimming is available at Jamestown High School from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent.

Free open gyms are available from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Roosevelt and Gussner Elementary schools. University of Jamestown baseball players are in charge.

The Bunker will be open for sledding from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Cross-country ski trails at Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course Pro Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. The cost of ski rentals is $5.

Public skating is offered at Wilson Arena from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The cost is $2 for children, $3 for adults and $5 for a family. Punch cards are available and the cost is $20 for children, $30 for adults and $50 for a family.

Outdoor skating rinks at Meidinger, McElroy, Leapaldt and Nickeus parks will be open from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Museums/Libraries/etc.

National Buffalo Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and AAA members, $10 for a family and $1 for children ages 6 to 18.

Alfred Dickey Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To access the Story Line, call 252-7464. The library is located at 105 3rd St. SE.

Stutsman County Library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is located at 910 5th St. SE.

The Arts Center, 115 2nd St. SW, Jamestown, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday or by appointment. There is no admission charge.

The Putnam House in Carrington is open for special events and by appointment by calling (701) 652-2090. There is no admission charge.

The Barnes County Historical Museum, 315 Central Ave. N, Valley City, is open year round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is a freewill donation.

The Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Historic Site near Cooperstown is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for children, $1 for a child, $30 for family season passes and $15 for an individual season pass. Contact Mark Sundlov at (701) 797-3691 for more information.

Art

“Creative Spirits” art exhibit featuring the work of Lydia Richez-Bowman and Tammy Jones is on display through March 1 at the Arts Center. Admission is free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Britian Willman is the Artist of the Month for January at Unison Bank.

Classes/Groups

Wood carving with a local wood carving group is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays in the Arts Center’s Hansen Studio. There is no charge. Any skill and interest level welcome. Call Andy Kudrna at 320-5075 with questions.
