Williams to perform at Shooting Star Casino
Country legend Don Williams will perform on stage at 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center, located at 777 Casino Road in Mahnomen, Minn.
Williams, nicknamed the “Gentle Giant” due to his large, imposing build, embarked on his music journey after graduating high school in the early ’60s and has built upon his career over the years, leading him to attain 17 No. 1 hits, including “I Wouldn’t Want to Live If You Didn’t Love Me,” “Tulsa Time” and “Stay Young.” His hit singles also included his Grammy-nominated song, “I Just Came Here for the Music.”
In the ’70s, he became one of the most successful country artists in the world. In 1978, Williams won the Academy of Country Music’s Single Record of the Year and the Country Music Association’s Male Vocalist of the Year awards. He was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.
Williams announced his retirement twice after the mid-’90s, but his love of music has led him to produce three albums since, including his most recent, “Reflections,” which was released this month. His current tour spans from the United States to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and will conclude in November.
