Woman awakes to intruder; man arrested

GRAND FORKS — A 19-year-old man was jailed Monday morning after an alleged residential burglary and sexual assault in Grand Forks.

Jeremiah Begay, described as a transient construction worker from Pinon, Ariz., was arrested after police responded to a call at 2:58 a.m. about a reported burglary, according to a news release from Grand Forks Police Department.

According to the report, a female victim had awoken in her apartment to find an unknown male pulling down her underwear. She was able to immediately flee from the residence and call police.

Begay is facing charges of burglary, sexual assault and minor in consumption of alcohol. He was taken to Grand Forks County Correctional Center, according to the report.

The victim was not physically injured in the incident, according to police.
