Women killed in crash near Hillsboro Saturday identified
Two women died Saturday after they were ejected from a vehicle in a crash near Hillsboro, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 9:20 p.m. 12 miles northeast of Hillsboro from the North Dakota/Minnesota line.
The patrol said Mercedes Rowley, 23, Sharon, N.D., and Teja Beyer, 21, Red Lake Falls, Minn., were passengers in a 2014 Dodge Challenger that was westbound on Traill County Road 17. The vehicle left the blacktop road, went into the right ditch, struck a driveway and began to roll. The vehicle then struck a second approach and came to rest upright.
The driver, James Yahnke, 51, Nielsville, Minn., was wearing a seat belt and was injured. He was airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, the patrol said.
Rowley and Beyer were pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said. Their seat belt use was unknown.
The vehicle was totaled.
The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
