Zonta elects new officers at meeting
The May meeting of Zonta of Jamestown was called to order by President Pam Phillips. The first order of business was to install the the new officers for 2014-15. They are: Kara Helgeson, president; Lori Listopad, vice president; Linda Mohn, treasurer; Kim Kapp, secretary, and Felicia Sargeant and Phillips, directors.
Bethany Berntson, a senior at Valley City High School, was in attendance along with her mother, Stacey Berntson. Bethany Berntson was presented the Young Women in Public Affairs Award. This award honors young women ages 16 to 19 who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations.
Carol Arnold presented 120 seconds on women’s issues. Her topic was an update on the Liberia Fistula Project, a cooperative project between Zonta International and The United Nations Population Fund. The overall goal of this project is to contribute to the elimination of obstetric and traumatic fistula and the reduction of maternal mortality, morbidity and sexual violence against women in Liberia.
The guest speaker for the evening was Rebecca Undem, founder of the business “How Mommy Got Her Groove Back.” Undem is a Dale Carnegie Training consultant and a network marketing professional. Her goal with her company is to help moms regain their senses of self, help them to be the best they can be and realize their potential to allow them to be a better mom. This month’s meeting will be a picnic meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Anne Carlsen Center. The program will be a tour of the facility. Guests are always welcome. Contact Helgeson at 252-6668 for more information.
