Man robs GF hotel at gunpoint

A man wearing a red ski mask and toting a handgun robbed the front desk of the Fairfield Inn in Grand Forks Thursday shortly after 5 p.m., according to police. Detectives are investigating the crime scene now and patrol officers are searching the surrounding area for the suspect who was last seen heading north.

GRAND FORKS — A man wearing a red ski mask and toting a handgun robbed the front desk of the Fairfield Inn in Grand Forks Thursday shortly after 5 p.m., according to police.

Detectives are investigating the crime scene now and patrol officers are searching the surrounding area for the suspect who was last seen heading north.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot-tall white man wearing a black sweatshirt with a white skull on it, Sgt. Bill Wyatt said.

The hotel clerk told police the man had a small-caliber handgun, according to detective Mike Iwan. Police said they do not know how much money was taken.

The hotel remains open to guests, Wyatt said.
