Judge approves legal fees in traffic fines suit

A judge in a class action lawsuit over Fargo traffic fines that exceeded state limits says he believes legal fees in the case are reasonable.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A judge in a class action lawsuit over Fargo traffic fines that exceeded state limits says he believes legal fees in the case are reasonable.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson gave preliminary consent last month to the $1.5 million settlement, but said he wanted to review spending by lawyers before granting final approval.

The agreement pays the Vogel Law Firm $350,000. Court documents show that the firm spent more than 1,400 hours on the case. Four lawyers represented the class at a cost of between $195 and $250 per hour.

Stephanie Sauby of West Fargo filed the original lawsuit in 2007.
