John Sackman Sr.

John J. Sackman Sr., 82, Bismarck, died Wednesday, December 17, 2009, in a Bismarck hospital. Private family service was held at the Bismarck Funeral Home. John was born on May 19, 1927, in Harvey, ND, to John and Magdalena (Filler) Sackman.

John J. Sackman Sr., 82, Bismarck, died Wednesday, December 17, 2009, in a Bismarck hospital. Private family service was held at the Bismarck Funeral Home.

John was born on May 19, 1927, in Harvey, ND, to John and Magdalena (Filler) Sackman. He was raised and educated in Tuttle and graduated from Tuttle High School. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 20, 1945, and was honorably discharged in 1947.

John was united in marriage to Betty Harrington on Oct. 10, 1948, in Robinson. John’s career included working at Conlins, Haybusters in Jamestown, ICI Pipe Insulation. He also owned a carpet installation business and the Hometown Café in Robinson with his wife Betty. They then moved to Bismarck and retired in 1991.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and most importantly spending time with his family. John was also a member of the Robinson Wildlife Club.

John is survived by his wife: Betty, Bismarck; Children: John (Janice) Sackman Jr., Lincoln, Patricia (Roger) Hertz, Omaha, NE, Monica Glanville, Bismarck, Margo (Lonny) Michel, Jamestown; eight grandchildren; two step grandsons; ten great grandchildren; Brother, Bob Sackman, Bismarck; Sisters: Laura Peterman, San Diego, CA, Bernice (Ray) LeMire, Menominee, MI, Kaye (Tom) Howe, Lake Wood, CA, Betty Miller, Bismarck, ND, Mavis (Kenneth) Edinger, Harvey, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Albert, Bert, Emil and Jake Sackman, and son-in-law, Mike Glanville.
