MOORHEAD, Minn. – Police here have received the long-awaited final forensic reports in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Joel LaFromboise on June 20.

LaFromboise was shot in the chest at point-blank range after wandering into the home of a stranger just after midnight on June 20.

The shooter, Vernon Allen, hasn’t been charged in the death.

The case file was forwarded to the Clay County Attorney’s Office last week, according to a news release from the Moorhead Police Department.

Clay County Attorney Brian Melton has reviewed all the reports and will hold a press conference at noon today to address the status of the investigation.

Detectives have been waiting for tests being done in the state-run crime lab in Bemidji on the .12-gauge shotgun used in the shooting.

LaFromboise’s father, Ralph, has said he hopes charges are filed against Allen.

“I’d like to see him suffer the way I’m suffering,” he recently told The Forum. “It would make me feel better to see him locked up.”

The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is owned by Forum Communications Co.
