SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson says the Senate-passed health care reform bill isn't perfect but contains enough good things that he supported it when passed in the Senate.
He calls it a ``historic step forward' and says it makes insurance more affordable, makes Medicare more stable and cuts the federal deficit.
Republican Sen. John Thune and all other GOP senators voted against it. Thune says it won't rein in health care costs and that it ``defies the will of a majority of Americans.'
A conference committee will try to work out a compromise between House and Senate versions of the bill.
